Lots of small things done really well, make really good BIG things, explains Simon.
There are many reasons for loving your job. It could be the work-life balance, the people and the support, the freedom to get on with things, the money, or the variety of work. For me, here and now, as an independent contractor at Velocity Financial, it’s a mix of all those things.
As it goes, three months in, I wake up excited to go to work. My first day on the job was my first session at a BNI (Business Networking International). I buzzed into work full of high fives and smiles. I still do.
Why? I think it comes down to Velocity’s focus on its clients. It’s a “think small” approach that focuses on the individual. And from this attention to detail Velocity has grown a business that is almost entirely built on referrals: clients recommending us to their friends and family.
And this is how thinking small can propel you to greatness. And I think Velocity is on to something BIG!
Thinking small in order to do big things is all about paying special attention to the details of the individual customer, delivering a high quality service and making it big picture, striving to cement a long-term relationship as opposed to a one-off transaction.
The Velocity team are constantly looking to improve, to tweak what is already working, breaking down each of our interactions and processes to see if we can do things better—thinking small to achieve big.
Lots of small things can become something big and that’s certainly the way I see things going here. I’m thrilled to be on board and ready for the next small (big) thing.
It’s the people, the culture, the shared knowledge environment, the sound-boarding and training sessions, the interactive staff meetings, the social side and the balance. It’s getting to work by myself with a bunch of cool people.
