The Premium Yarn: Tips on How to Claim and Protect Your Stuff over Summer

Happy Holidays, team!

I won’t be writing a full blog for December, but I wanted to give you a heads-up for the break and provide some information that might be helpful.

The first thing I want to address is, “What happens if I have a claim?”

It does happen, so what you want to do is remain calm, take photos of any damage, note down details of any third parties, and where applicable, file a police report. If you want to be proactive and start filling in a claim form, you can find an applicable form on your insurer’s website. This will be noted on your invoice and schedules, as per my highlighted example below.

Making a claim

Your insurer will have a period where the office is closed, and likely minimally staffed. So, if you do submit a claim form directly to them, please CC me into the email and be prepared that you may not hear back immediately.

The second point I want to address is, “What if I get something shiny and new?”

Lots of gifts are being given, including jewellery, bicycles, and the like – some of which will need to be specifically noted if they’re over a certain dollar amount. Your best bet here is to send me an email, noting the item, a brief description, its dollar amount, and the date you require cover from. Anything I receive will be quoted effective the date you request, so please don’t panic if you don’t get confirmation from me immediately. Not all items need to be noted, but if you’re at all hesitant, then please email me just to be safe. 😊

The third point I want to touch on is to be safe and practice caution where you can. If you go away for a holiday, lock your doors, windows, and garages. Ask a neighbour or someone to check on your house every so often. Don’t leave presents in plain sight, whether it’s in your house or in your car. I don’t need to remind you that there are opportunistic people out there, so whatever small things you can do to discourage theft, I’d advise you to look into it.

Finally, please be safe if you’re travelling. Every year we see avoidable accidents and fatalities on the road. Over the 2022 break, there were 21 completely avoidable fatalities. Take your time, enjoy the beautiful New Zealand scenery, and if you’re getting frustrated about being stuck behind that RV on the windy road, put your favourite song on and remember that wherever you’re heading, they will be fine with you being late. 😊

I’ll be checking my phone every day or so. If you’re in crisis mode, please ring me, and I will get back to you when I can. Have an incredible break – you’ve earned it, team!

Cheers,

Joshua from Caveo
